Gregory F. LaPlace 1960 – 2012

Worcester – Gregory Fred LaPlace, 52, of Winchester Avenue died unexpectedly Monday at home. Greg was born in Springfield the son of Fred and Electra (Gillis) LaPlace. He grew up in West Springfield, Holyoke and Westfield, graduating from Westfield High School in 1979. He attended Stonehill College and UMASS and became a professional horse trainer and riding instructor as well as a certified horse show Judge. He served as an Equestrian Team Coach for Assumption College and Clark University for 11 years, and worked out of Wild Aire Stables in Southbridge for over 25 years. Greg was an avid body builder and was a weight lifting trainer for years at Gold’s Gym in Worcester. He was a great gift-giver and had a talent for motivating people and making them laugh. He touched a lot of lives with his high energy and youthful spirit and will be especially missed by friends and family. He leaves his mother Electra Gillis of Westfield, his father and step-mother Fred and Andrea LaPlace of Agawam; two brothers Arthur LaPlace and his wife Natalie of Chagrin Falls, OH and Jason O’Connor and wife Anne of Belchertown and his nephews and nieces Jordan, Jared, Jenna and Jocelyn LaPlace, and Brandon and Joshua O’Connor. He also leaves an Uncle and Aunt, Desmond and Jeanne LaPlace of Lake Forest, IL. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday with Liturgy in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Springfield at 1:00 pm followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Westfield. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00am – 12:00 noon at Curran-Jones. For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
