Obituary

Adeline Rose "Abby" (Banas) Ayers, at age 100 passed away from natural causes.  Born in Chicopee, she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Stella (Szot) Banas. She was all about family.

She retired from Unifirst after 25 years as an office employee.  In retirement she enjoyed taking courses through Elderhostel, now known as Road Scholars.

She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, John F. Ayers, in 1994.  In 2020 her daughter, Ellenjane Kiefer, passed away.  She also lost two sons-in-law, Gregory Giard and John C. Kiefer III, a grandson, Christopher M. Kiefer, and two sisters, Ethel Daigneault and Mildred Toczko.

She leaves her three remaining daughters and their families:  Arlene J. and Peter D. Mazza of Feeding Hills, Marcia and Dean Sias of Westfield, and Pamela J. Giard (Gregory) of West Yarmouth.

Grandma Abby's grandchildren are Karen and husband Brian Costello; Peter J. Mazza; J.A Marshall and wife Megan; John C. Kiefer IV and wife Tricia; Stephanie E. Berard and husband Jay; Kimberlee Borges and husband Jon; Jeremy Giard and his partner Robyn, Brooke Leidner and husband Gabriel; and Cari Mach and her partner Neil.

Her great grandchildren are Brian Lee Costello, PhD. and fiancée, Reanna; Teagan E.  Marshall, M.D.; Emily Kiefer; Lt. John C. Kiefer V and wife Abby; Matthew Kiefer and wife Meredith; Christopher M. Kiefer, II; Brooklyn Borges; Hugh Borges; Jayden K. Berard; Abigail R. Berard; Taylor Leidner and fiancée Alexis; Braedy Leidner; Stephen Michael Giard and wife Fran; Corporal Jackson Giard and wife Faith; Tony Mach and partner Danielle and daughter Bella; Bryce, Alexis, and Donny Mach; and Keegan.

Her great great grandchildren are EllaGrace, Hazelee, and AdelineMae Giard, Johnathan Giard; and Eliza Jane Kiefer.  Abigail Rose (Abby) and AdelineMae are namesakes.

Calling hours are Friday, October 24, 2025 from 10-11:30am at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Mass at 12noon at Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills.
