Alexander R. Gearing

1998 – 2021

Westfield – Alexander R. Gearing, 22, died unexpectedly Saturday in Vermont while away on a ski getaway with his friends.  Alex was born in Springfield and has lived in Westfield all his life.  He graduated from Westfield High School and recently received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from American University.  He was an avid skier, was a member of the Westfield Highschool Ski Team and both the cross-country and Track and Field teams.   Alex became a co-founder of the Rotary Club while a Freshman at American University, staying in this role for two years.  Alex was fortunate enough to have quite a few adventures in his short but fun-filled life, he went canoeing in the Adirondacks for 10 days, camping out on the battlefields of Gettysburg, traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains and studying abroad in Germany to name a few.  Alex was always ready with a smile, he was gracious and always inviting someone to come along for some fun, whether it be a pick up game of soccer, going on a hike or going out for a bite to eat with a group pf friends.  He leaves his parents James L. Gearing and Allison J. Spanos-Gearing; his brother Andrew; Grandfather Ronald L. Gearing and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Grace Gearing, Andrew and Carol Spanos.
