Lasonde
February 17, 1926 – June 20, 2017
Alice L. (Wells) Lasonde passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017, at the age of 91, after a long battle with dementia. She was born in New Britian CT to the late Nelson H. and Gertrude (Mousaw) Wells. At a young age, her family moved to Worcester Street in West Springfield. On September 4, 1944, she married Albert J. Lasonde and moved to the Brightwood section of Springfield where they owned and operated City Cleaners for m any years. In 1966, they moved to West Springfield where Alice lived until 2014 when she moved to Heritage Woods in Agawam. Alice was devoted to her family and always put her family first. She was a kind and caring person who was always the first one to help family and friends. Alice worked in many office/clerical positions over the years some of which included: Milgene Cleaners, Roberts and Perry Oil Company, L. E. Belcher Oil Company, and office manager at Montessori Children's House in West Springfield. Alice loved to travel, go shopping, play bingo, collect cardinals, and read Danielle Steele books. She enjoyed spending time and participating in activities with her friend Louise (Lou). She was a Eucharistic Minister. Alice was a volunteer at the West Springfield Senior Center for many years, where she organized outings (trips, dinners) for the senior center members and was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She worked on many political campaigns for State Senator James Welch and was a favorite volunteer. Alice leaves her loving children, Wallace and Kathryn Lasonde of Illinois and Janis and David Ruggiera of West Springfield, her beloved grandchildren Meredith and George Raab, Carrie and Andrew Rutkowski, Matthew and Stacy Lasonde, Shelly and Robert Benoit, and Ashley and Jason Mourao, along with 8 cherished great grandchildren Noah and Grace Raab, Ava and Ryan Rutkowski, Liam, Perrin, and Kenna Lasonde, and Nathaniel (Bub Bub) Benoit, and her devoted sister and brother-in-law Theresa and George Croteau. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, especially life-long friends Virginia Lasonde and Laurette Methe. Alice was pre-deceased by her husband Albert J. Lasonde (1989), son Robert W. Lasonde (2014), and siblings Herbert Wells, Anna Brewster, Ernest Wells, and Doris Caouette. Funeral Friday at 9:00 am from Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield, MA. followed by Mass in St. Thomas Church at 10:00 AM with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Alice's family would like to thank the Fallon Health Summit Elder Care Program and especially East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center-Dementia Unit for providing Alice with specialized care and comfort.
