Amanda Leigh Currie, 23, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, August 18, 2016 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born in Springfield, she was a lifelong resident of Chicopee and 2010 graduate of Chicopee High School where she was in the National Honor Society and the photography club. She received a Presidential Scholarship for, and was a 2015 graduate of Western New England University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics. Amanda was also a math tutor, hoping to someday become a high school math teacher. An avid Johnny Depp fan, she had the honor of fulfilling her dream by meeting the man she often referred to as the "love of her life." Amanda will always be remembered for her unbelievable courage, keen intelligence, quirky sense of humor, and love for her family and friends. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Paul Currie. She leaves her mother, Kimberly Holmes of Chicopee, her father and step-mother, Timothy and Laura (Monette) Currie of Ludlow, two brothers, Christian Cosme and Ryan Cosme both of Chicopee, two sisters, Sydney Hurley and Michayla Currie both of Somerset, MA, her dear and close friend, Tianna Procon of Chicopee, her maternal grandparents, Richard and Gail (Dean) Holmes of Chicopee, her paternal grandmother, Corinne (Wilfore) Currie of Granby, her aunts and uncles, Carline and Christopher Winslow of Ellington, CT, Richard and Lisa Holmes of Franklin, TN, Cynthia and Alex Tourigny of Chicopee, Lloyd Dean of Ludlow, Alan Dean of Somers, CT and Cheryl Cleary of Springfield, Kathleen and Ronald Lindemuth of Pennsylvania, childhood friend Justina Serrano of Manchester, CT, and many other close cousins and friends. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 12:30pm at the First Congregational Church, 306 Chicopee St., Chicopee followed by a burial in Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. Calling hours at the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley are on Friday from 4-8 PM.
