Amy Lynn (Hamilton) Blankenburg, loving wife, devoted mother and grandma died Thursday March 23, 2017. Amy was born, June 26, 1963 in Rumford, ME, the daughter of Elsie (Oak) Hamilton and the late John A. Hamilton. Soon after her birth her parents moved to West Springfield. Amy attended West Springfield Public Schools and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1981. Amy was active in girl scouting for many years and worked at camp Bonnie Brae as a counselor in the summer months during and after high school. Amy played soccer and took dance while growing up. Amy babysat for many young children when she was younger and was always there for parents and children alike. Amy took camping trips as a youngster with her family and passed that love of outdoors along to other children when she was a camp counselor for Camp Bonnie Brae in Otis MA. Amy attended Holyoke Community College and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1985. She worked for KinderCare in West Springfield for a number of years and began working as a Paraprofessional in the West Springfield Public Schools in 1998 and helped students with learning disabilities navigate their studies. Amy was an avid crafter and enjoyed crochet, sewing and crafts of all kinds. She sold her crafts at local craft fairs for many years and made friends all over the world in her crafting adventures. Amy will be dearly missed by her husband, Paul, her son Kurt and her grandson Kyler. Amy is also survived by her mother Elsie Hamilton of Agawam, her two sisters, Karen and her husband Stephen of Westfield along with their two daughters Dana Canary of Chicopee and Jessie Canary of Buffalo NY; Sandra Lessard of Springfield along with her daughter Paige Lessard of Enfield CT and son Dan Lessard of Chicopee; she also leaves behind her niece Tricia Johnson of West Springfield. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran Jones on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. There will be a private burial at Paucatuck Cemetary at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
