Obituary

Andrew G. Dratelis, 88, passed away on Friday April 10, 2015 at home. He was born September 5, 1926 and was the son of the late George A. Dratelis and Marianthi (Hatzimichalis) Dratelis. Andrew graduated from Technical High School in Springfield, MA, and he served in the US Army during WWII and the post-war period in Korea. He was a member of the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, and he loved both his Hellenic heritage and his Greek Orthodox faith. He was a resident of the Town of West Springfield Massachusetts, where he also was a school system employee for many years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Frosine Dratelis. Andrew leaves his children, Athena Dratelis, of Larchmont, NY and George M. Dratelis and his wife Olga of the Boston, MA area. Andrew also leaves many dear friends, band members and neighbors who were the center of his life. "Andy", as he was affectionately known, loved to put a smile on people's faces especially with his engaging conversation and skilled harmonica playing. His favorite activities were travel adventures with his beloved wife Frosine before her passing and his time in the St. Luke's Choir and Golden Age Harmoni-Cats in his later years as a widower. He was the consummate people person. A wake will be held at the Curran-Jones Funeral Home at 109 Main Street, West Springfield, Massachusetts, on Monday from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 12:30 pm in Saint Luke Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow. Andrew's body will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Burial in the Mass Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's Greek Orthodox Church. For more information please go to curranjones.com.
