WEST SPRINGFIELD – Anthony J. Barto, 88, of Hewitt Street died Monday at Renaissance Manor, Westfield. Anthony was born in Westfield, attended Westfield High School. He has lived in West Springfield since 1954. He was part of the Normandy Invasion of World War II serving as a Seaman 2nd Class for the United States Navy. Anthony worked in the Highway Department for the Town of West Springfield for 20 years and the West Springfield Stop & Shop for 20 years. He was a former communicant of St. Ann's Church and loved to travel, fish, hunt and build model boats. His wife Anita (Burroughs) Barto died in 2010. He leaves a son Steven and his wife Sherry of Ohio; a daughter Toni L. Barto of Athens, Greece; two sisters Madeline Frantiska and Mary Kirby of Westfield; three grandchildren Anna, Michael and Tony; and four great grandchildren Antoinette, John, Kayla and Ariadne. The graveside service will be held Thursday at 1:00pm in St. Mary's Cemetery in Westfield. The West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
