Antonietta M. Sweeney

October 2, 1931 – June 2, 2021

Chicopee – Antonietta M. (Zamboni) Sweeney, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 2. Antonietta was born in Springfield and raised her family on Hungry Hill until moving to Chicopee 24 years ago. She was the daughter of the late Bortolo and Palmira (Modena) Zamboni of Brenzone, Italy. She enjoyed working for many years as a teachers aid for the Springfield School System and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Daniel J. Sweeney in 2017. She leaves four children, Daniel (Michele); Michael; Linda (James); and Maureen (Lou). She was the cherished "Nonni" to grandchildren Lisa, Joseph, Melissa, Danielle, Christopher, Anthony, and Vincent as well as seven great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister-in-law Jacqueline Zamboni and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two loving brothers Raymond and Natalino. Antonietta's zeal for cooking was shown in early family gatherings, daily meals, and recipes passed on to her generations. Her humor, love for music, and rhythm were also joyfully passed on as well as her passion for Sunday football, particularly for that of Tom Brady. An independent spirit, with a quiet strength, the family is grateful that their mother's wishes to remain in her home until her passing was fulfilled. The Sweeney's would also like to thank Olga and the staff at Heritage Hall North for the kind and compassionate care provided. All services were private.
