Antonio "Tony" Aversa Sr.

SPRINGFIELD – Antonio "Tony" Aversa, 91, formerly of Page Boulevard died Wednesday surrounded by his family in an Agawam Nursing Home. Tony was born in West Springfield the son of the late Alphonso and Theresa Aversa. He grew up in West Springfield and has lived in Springfield since 1950. He was a World War II Veteran serving with the United States Navy and was a past commander of the American Legion Post 21 in Agawam. He also belonged to the V.F.W. #7352 in Springfield. He worked as an Auto Body Technician for Houser Buick and various other body shops and was Director of Auto Body Program and teacher for the United Technical School in Springfield. He leaves his wife Alfreda (Gordon) Aversa; two sons Anthony Aversa Jr. of Agawam and Thomas Hebert of Springfield, three brothers Alphonse, Joseph and Augustine; two sisters Jennie Chilton and Angelina Carmack, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters Pauline Attanasio in 1997 and Joann Mitchell last year. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday at 12:00 Noon followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
