Obituary

Arthur E. Wheeler, 89, died Monday at home surrounded by his family.  Art was born in Springfield the son of the late Francis and Marion (Mosher) Wheeler.  He lived in West Springfield his entire life and worked as a foreman for the Railroad until his retirement.  He was also an Army veteran of World War II. Art was a loving father and had an unbelievable sense of humor.  In contrast, he was a firm believer in prayer, having learned from the nuns at Immaculate Conception School.  He was predeceased by his wife Gladys (Clark) Wheeler, a son, Thomas Wheeler, two brothers, Francis and James Wheeler, and three sisters, Elizabeth Chase, Joan McKenna and Jacquelyn Chilton. He leaves a daughter, Gail Powell and her husband Richard of West Springfield, three sons, David and his wife Chris Wheeler of Tennessee, Arthur and his wife Debbie Wheeler, Robert Wheeler all of West Springfield, a brother and his wife, Donald and Denise Wheeler of Agawam, a sister and her husband, Barbara and Donald Lane of West Springfield, two sisters-in-law, Joan Wheeler and Antoinette Wheeler, ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.  Calling hours will precede the Mass at the church from 8:45-10am.
