BARBARA SILK STANLEY, beloved wife and companion of 66 years to her husband Rev. Arthur Stanley, mother of three wonderful children Bruce, Mark, and Kathleen, Grandmother to eight cherished Grandchildren, and Great-grandmother to her first Great- grand son, Nicolas, died peacefully Sunday morning January 15, 2017 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, after a struggle with a weakened heart. Barbara was born and raised in western Pennsylvania, graduated Cum Laude in 1950 from Muskingum University, New Concord, Ohio, and majored in early childhood education. Later she earned a Master's degree in her field at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She worked professionally as a Kindergarten Teacher and Director of a YWCA Pre-School program, and served six years from 1972 to 1978 as the Kindergarten Teacher of the Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, Korea. In retirement Barbara stayed active as a volunteer in social service programs and enjoyed traveling. She is remembered at Loomis Village in South Hadley where she and her husband were residents for 10 years for her leadership of the monthly Writers Group, as a member of the Health and Wellness Committee, and for her friendly, outgoing supportive personality. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the LOOMIS FRIENDSHIP FUND or to an institution dedicated to Early Childhood Education of one's choice. A Memorial Service is planned for Loomis Village on Saturday, January 21 st at 2pm in the auditorium. A private family Interment will take place in the Springtime.
