Obituary

Betty L. (Sylvester) Malaguti, 90, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 13, 2026. Born in Rocky Hill, CT, daughter of the late Dominic and Minnie (Vinchetti) Sylvester, she grew up in Rocky Hill and attended Wethersfield High School. As a young woman she worked at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Hospital. Betty met her husband Del and they married in 1965, had a son in 1966. They moved to West Springfield shortly after to stay. She was a wonderful mom and made a peaceful, healthy home. She worked for the West Springfield Police Department as a crossing guard at Memorial School for 18 years and made many friends among the children and their parents. She was a member of the St. Ann choir for many years. After her husband Delfo passed in 1992, she and her sister Helen were snowbirds. They also traveled several times through Europe. She took care of Helen for 10 years through cancer treatment until 2005. There were many visits to her sisters in Indiana and Colorado and in 2024 Betty even saw friends in Brazil. She enjoyed people and was a very positive person. She would talk to anyone and everyone and lend help if needed. During the Big E, she was out talking to the people as they passed and drinking wine with her neighbor Betty. She was a big walker and active up until she took ill. An avid reader, she kept up with politics, local to national. She loved The Jumble and Scrabble and gently beat many of her opponents. She liked good food and dinner out or in, and especially loved breakfast or lunch with the girls. She liked going to Rhode Island, and spending time and traveling with her bestie, Margaret. Coffee and a sweet in the afternoon were another favorite. She will be greatly missed by all. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Jeannette Landberg and Helen Darby. She leaves a son, David Malaguti of Stoneham, and a sister Joyce Walters of Denver, CO. Calling hours are Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 9:30-11am at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street with a Funeral Home Service at 11. The burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
