Betty Jane
Rhodes
November 13, 1926 – August 7, 2021
Betty Jane (Dull) Rhodes of Westfield, MA, passed away on August 7, 2021, at the age of 94. Betty was born on November 13, 1926, in Skaneateles, NY where she lived most of her early years and met the love of her life James W. Rhodes in 1951 and were married for 64 years before Jim's passing in 2017. Betty and Jim lived on the family farm in Skaneateles until 1955 and then moved around for several years while Jim worked for GLF/Agway and settled in Little Falls, NY in 1959. Betty hosted a radio show for the local community in Little Falls. In 1966, they relocated to West Springfield, MA where they built their life with their three boys, David, Tom, and Bill. Betty was very active with the West Springfield Community and Tatham Social Club. She loved playing bridge and was well known in the area for organizing estate sales. She was an avid antiques enthusiast and never let a tag sale pass her by. She worked for Forbes & Wallace in Springfield for several years in Human Resources and for Bordeaux Printing. She was a long-time member of Mittineague Congregational Church.
Betty loved to sail with Jim on their sailboat in Long Island Sound and later traded that in for an RV that allowed them to travel from the east coast to the west coast. They spent many winter years in St. Augustine, FL where they created lifelong friendships and wonderful memories. Six years ago, Betty and Jim made a new home at Armbrook Assisted Living in Westfield, MA. They made many friends there and valued the wonderful care from the staff at Armbrook. Betty loved socializing with people and doing crafts. She was loved by everyone she met and genuinely loved them as well. She was a very caring, loving and generous lady and was everyone's grandmother even if not related by blood.
Betty was the daughter of the late Dora M. Hardacre Dull and Alfred L. Dull. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband James in 2017. She will be dearly missed by her sons, William and his wife Debra of Westfield, MA, Thomas and his wife Terri Lehman of Laurel, MD and David and his wife Susan Rogers of New London, NH; her six grandchildren, James (Kate Hunter) Rhodes, Emily (Michael) Glynn, Kelsey (Matthew) Mozzi, Brittany (Clayton) Higginson, Geoffrey (Tamara) Rhodes, Griffin Rhodes; her eight great-grandchildren, Shaylin, Wells and Eleni Glynn, Holly and Austin Mozzi, Clover Rhodes, Charlie Higginson and Haley Goldberg.
