Feeding Hills - Carmella M. (Gamelli) Avery, 97, of North West Street died Sunday in Baystate Medical Center. Carmella was born in Springfield, the daughter of Alphonse and Antoinette (Salvato) Gamelli. She grew up in Springfield and lived in West Springfield most of her life before moving to Feeding Hills in 1994. She was a seamstress for the former Holyoke Dress Company in Springfield. Her husband Everett L. Avery died in 1990 and her stepson David Avery died in 1989. She was also predeceased by her sister Josephine Palange-Griffin and six brothers Louis, Pat, Tony, Frank, Al and Tom Gamelli. She leaves a stepdaughter Linda Avery of Florida; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren as well as her primary caregivers; her great-great niece Melissa Paier and nephews Vincent Palange and Bruce Allard. She also leaves her extended family; the Palange, Paier, DeMaio, Laviolette, Gamelli and Sienko families. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 9:00am with Liturgy in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church at 10:00am followed by entombment in Hillcrest Park Cemetery's Mausoleum.
