Carol Zimmer

1944 – 2023

Agawam – Carol Zimmer, 79, has passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023.  Carol was born and raised on a farm on Miller Street in Ludlow, MA.  In 1989, she moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, where she spent the next 27 years with her husband Thomas Zimmer (deceased).  Following her diagnosis of Alzheimer's and dementia in 2016, she returned to Massachusetts and became a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam.  Carol enjoyed volunteering in local churches in Virginia.  She was most proud of the time she spent doing volunteer work for Straight Street, a local Virginia organization helping young women who battled drug addiction to acclimate back into society.  Carol leaves three children, daughter Kelley Beckwith of Agawam and her husband Jason, son Mathew Congleton of Las Vegas and son Philip Zimmer of Richmond, Virginia; and three grandchildren, Taylor Richards, Samuel Beckwith and Carolyn Congleton.  Carol's family would like to thank all of the healthcare workers at Heritage Hall East in Agawam for all the love, care, support and attention they gave to Carol during her time as a resident in their facility.  The West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.  The family will be having a private ceremony and ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
