Charles P. Andre
1925-2011

WEST SPRINGFIELD- Charles P. Andre, 85, of West Springfield passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011. He was born in Albany, NY on April 14, 1925. He was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Grace Mary (Brand) Andre. He was predeceased by his wife, Ellenor, in 1996. He was also predeceased by his two sisters Gertrude and Grace as well as his brother William. He will be deeply missed by his beloved son, Richard and his wife Donna Andre of West Springfield. He will be fondly remembered by his 3 grandchildren, Christopher Andre and his wife Emily, Chad Andre and his wife Darcy, and Matthew Andre and his wife Mila all of West Springfield. He will also be missed by his four great grandchildren who were the light of his life, Nina, Sophia, Olivia, and Dominico Charles Andre. Charles left high school to join the U.S. Navy and served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Walker from 1942 to 1945. He participated in seven naval engagements. Upon returning home, Charles became a member of the West Springfield Police Department and served for 31 years. He married Ellenor R. Tower in 1947 and was her loving husband for 49 years. Charles was an avid baseball fan and coach. One of his proudest coaching accomplishments was leading the 1964 Monarchs to the Sand Lot Championships and visiting Yankee Stadium. Charles truly enjoyed spending time with his family and was lovingly known as "Pa." He never missed an opportunity to go out to eat. Charles could always be found outdoors whether it be going for a walk, gardening or just sitting in the sun. Charles family would like to thank the staff at Mason-Wright Retirement Community.
