Charles Lee Gullett, 69 of West Springfield passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Charles was born in Paintsville, Ky on June 20, 1948 and attended Paintsville High School where he played football and track. After graduating from high school, Charles served four years in the United States Air Force, serving at Westover Air Force Base. Charles worked for the US Postal service for 35 years, followed by 5 years working at Wal-Mart in Chicopee. Charles loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing or hunting but was happiest just walking in the woods. Charles also enjoyed country music, classic cars and anything involving the University of Kentucky, especially the football and basketball teams. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol, whom he met while stationed at Westover. He also leaves behind two children a daughter, Heather Merlo and her husband Jeremy of West Springfield and a son, Scott Gullett and his wife Sarah of Springfield. Charles also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, who were his greatest joy, Emily, Amber, Sadie, Jack and Savannah; two sisters Linda and Helen and two brothers Robert and Ernie; several nieces and nephews and his beloved bulldog Molly, whom remained by his side throughout this brave fight. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Mercy Medical Center and two individuals, Dr. Tim Johnson and Charles's guardian angel Melissa, who assisted with the chemotherapy treatments.
