Charles E. Hartwell Jr., 89, of Glendale Road, died Saturday in a local nursing home. Charles was born and raised in Springfield and has lived in Hampden for many years. He was a retired Tire Salesman and served in the United States Army. He was a longtime member of the Melha Temple where he served as a director and as a member of the Melha Highlanders. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Beverly (Amidon) Hartwell; a daughter, Linda Morgan and her husband Peter of West Springfield; four grandchildren- Richard, Robert and John Guagliardo, and Kim Syme. He also leaves nieces and nephews as well as six great-grandchildren. A graveside service with military honors will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery, Friday at 1:00pm. There are no calling hours.
