Claire M. Corbeil

1932 – 2018

South Hadley – Claire M. (Garvin) Corbeil, 85, passed away peacefully Friday in Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Claire was born in Holyoke, August 30, 1932, the daughter of the late Helen (Lenarczyk) and John Garvin. She grew up in Holyoke, graduating from Holyoke High School, and lived in Chicopee before moving to South Hadley in 1963. She and her husband owned and operated Big E's Supermarket in Easthampton since 1977 and she semi-retired in 1995. Prior to the supermarket, Claire worked for Beneficial Financial. She was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church and member of the Rosary Altar Society and the South Hadley Women's Club. Claire's greatest love in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them, watching her grandson play basketball and baseball, going on short road trips with her granddaughter, shopping and dining out. She also loved her trips to Cape Cod with her family. Her husband of 57 years, Edward A. Corbeil died in 2010. She leaves a daughter Judi LeBel and her husband Steve of South Hadley and her grandchildren Angela and Andrew.  Besides her husband, Claire was predeceased by an infant daughter. She will also be missed by her best friend and canine companion "Buddy". The family would like to thank Holyoke Health Care, Baystate VNA and Connie Addai-Mireku (her caregiver) for the wonderful care extended over the past few years. The funeral will be held at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley, Wednesday at 9:00am with Liturgy in St. Theresa's Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Rose Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
