Obituary

Claire M. Sypek
1933-2016
Springfield-Claire M. Sypek, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 17, 1933 to Maurice and Stella (Topor) Sullivan and graduated from Holy Name High School in Chicopee. Claire was an Assistant Clerk in Chicopee District Court for more than thirty years. She was carried over the threshold at 76 Eddy Street on "Hungry Hill" by her husband John and lived there for more than 58 years. An active member of the Parish Council at Our Lady of Hope Church, she was a longtime volunteer at The Shriner's Hospital for Children. Claire was the ultimate "hockey mom" cheering for and supporting her four boys and grandsons. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children and grandchildren especially on the yearly family summer vacations at the beach. Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband John. She is survived by her four sons, John P. Sypek III and his wife Rhonda of Canton, OH; Attorney Richard A. Sypek and his wife Catherine of Westfield, MA; Stephen F. Sypek and his wife Christine of Hingham, MA and Thomas E. Sypek and his wife Lisa of Auburn, MA and her twelve cherished grandchildren: Lexi, Kirby, Elle, John IV, Mary, Kevin, Stephen, Andrew, Elizabeth, Katherine, Julia, and Jackson; her brother Gerald of Florence, MA, and her Aunt Jean Topor. Claire also leaves behind her best friend Carol Rahilly. Claire and Carol met in kindergarten and were more like sisters than friends for over 78 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield on Monday, August 22. 2016 at 11:00am followed by burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visiting hours will precede the Mass at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:30 am. The Sypek family is especially grateful to the staff at the Genesis Center in Westfield for their care and compassion during their mother's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1399 Broadway, Suite 1505, New York, NY.
