Clyde L.
Simpson
June 5, 1936 – May 4, 2023
Clyde L. Simpson, 86, passed away on May 4, 2023 in Agawam, MA. Clyde was born on June 5, 1936, to the late Frank and Harriet (Hubbard) Simpson. He grew up in West Springfield and was hired by Western Mass Electric Company at the age of 18. Soon after, Clyde married his beloved Madeline (Bencivenni) Simpson and started a family. After the birth of their second daughter, the pair moved to the up-and-coming community of Agawam, where they would remain faithful residents for over sixty years. In Clyde's mid-20s, with his career and young family in tow, he volunteered for service in the National Guard Reserve. For forty years, Clyde was a dutiful employee of Western Mass Electric before retiring for the first time. However, Clyde's first retirement didn't last long. Once again he joined the labor force, this time for the Appleton Corporation as a facility maintenance technician. For twenty years, Clyde made sure everything ran smoothly on campus, retiring at the spry age of 82. Clyde's tireless work ethic is honored in a boiler room on campus where he frequented, a room now named in his honor. Tireless—a defining characteristic Clyde carried in his strong arms throughout his time on earth. His duty to his profession was only trumped by his dedication to his family. Indeed, the motivation for sixty years of sweat equity came in the beautiful moments of family congregation, where Papa Clyde could be seen beaming, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Watching his grand and great grandchildren grow is what he enjoyed most of all. From sporting events to recitals, he attended them all. Clyde was predeceased by his wife Madeline Simpson in 2020 and his youngest daughter Lisa Holloway in 2021. He leaves two daughters, Linda Gloster and her husband Richard, and Lori Keeley and her husband Brian, a son-in-law Terry Holloway, eight grandchildren, Shawn, Erinn, Megan, Carly, Kyle, Colleen, Casey and Aiden, four great grandchildren, Egan, Ava, Brody and Eloise. Clyde also leaves his siblings, Craig and Lee Simpson, Barbara Price, Carolyn Simpson and Deborah Bandis along with several nieces and nephews and their families. Clyde was also predeceased by his sister Susan Simpson. Calling hours will be held Monday, May 15, 2023 at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield, from 11am-12 followed by a Memorial Service at 12 noon. Burial will take place in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Clyde's name to New England Hospice, Partners in Care, 190 Old Derby St., Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02034. The family would like to especially thank Clyde's team of New England Hospice for the care and comfort they provided Clyde.
