Obituary

Colleen (Sweeney) Rondeau, 74, with her family by her side during her final day's passed on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at home after suffering a long illness. She demonstrated so much courage and determination, as she refused to quit her fight for life, that she will be an inspiration to our family and friends. Born on November 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the John and Vera (Fancher) Heneghan. She was a forty-three year resident of South Hadley, a graduate of Indiana public schools, attended Ball State University, a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a teacher of C.C.D. classes, active in school PTO's, sports organizations and fundraisers. A past member and treasurer of SOHAYWO, former Town Meeting member, and a DAR member. Her most treasured occupation was as a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was the office manager and treasurer of Masse's Seafood and other family businesses. She collected statues and pictures of Angles, our Blessed Mother Mary and many Saints. Her interests included painting ceramics, home decorating, and landscape gardening. She loved to travel with family and friends and enjoyed vacation cruises to historical locations and destinations around the world and across the United States. Her beach house at Point Judith, RI was a destination for family and friends. Colleen enjoyed reading and using the Holy Bible thanks to the teaching provided by her grandmother Belva Franke. She maintained a fondness for cats and dogs and cared for family pets and all animals with loving kindness. She was known as the family matriarch. Always in charge, loving, generous, and willing to assist and support family and friends. Her devotion to God and family, personal appearance and conduct serves as an example to us. She will be remembered for the special way our family celebrated Christmas, Easter, weddings, birthdays, and her fiftieth wedding anniversary party at Disney World. Most of all, to quote her husband, Raymond, "I will remember Colleen as my "Rose", a beautiful person with radiant blue eyes, the woman I loved since our first meeting, my wife, best friend, loving mother, grandmother and the memories we shared during our fifty-five year journey together." In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Goff. Colleen is survived by her husband, Raymond, a son and his wife, Donald and Anita Rondeau, a son, Stephen Rondeau, a daughter and her husband, Laura and Caesar Fernandes, a son-in-law, Michael Goff, her grandson, whom she raised as a son after her daughter Brenda died, Patrick Goff, a brother and his wife, Charles and Sharon Sweeney, her mother-in-law, Dorothy Rondeau, a sister-in-law, Cecile Totorice, a brother-in-law and his wife, Bruce and Sue Rondeau, eight grandchildren, Sarah Rondeau, Sean Rondeau, Allison Rondeau, Zachary Rondeau, Ryan, Eric, and Jason Fernandes, eight nieces, three nephews, special friends, Ellen Arsenault, Lynn Baker and Mary LaMontagne and lifetime friends, Patricia Carrabine, Gerry Lecca and Sandra Stienberg. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11am from the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street with a Mass in St. Patrick's Church at Noon. The burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
