Collette L. (Aschenbach) Wright 93, daughter of the late Henry and Marion (Loomis) Aschenbach passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2014. She was born in Springfield on January 9, 1921. Collette was an accomplished painter and graduated from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1944 with a BA in teaching. Her desire to travel and adventurous spirit took her to California after graduation. From there in 1947 she accepted a teaching position in Nenana, Alaska where she married Arthur Eugene Wright, homesteaded on the Tanana River building a log cabin and started a family in 1950. She moved back to her home town of West Springfield in 1955 where she raised her family. Collette believed in giving back to the community, as she annually chose one charity to volunteer to walk the neighborhood to collect donations. She was Chairman of the West Springfield Historical Commission in the 1980's and later successfully campaigned against a proposed golf course in Mittineague Park, land which was formerly owned and farmed by her paternal grandparents. She was a long time member of the Deerfield Valley Art Association and exhibited frequently. Collette was predeceased by her son, Douglas L. Wright in 2009 and her grandson, Matthew Bertoncelli in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Williams of Warren, MA and sons, Arthur of Blandford, MA, Daniel of West Springfield, Forest and his wife, Patricia of West Springfield, Theodore and his wife, Debra and their two daughters, Megan and Angela of Montgomery, MA, granddaughters, Jessica Fulford and Kimberly Carroll and several great grandchildren of Slocumb, AL. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be scheduled in the spring at Mittineague Park.
