Curtis A Fudge passed away quietly at his residence The Life Care Center of Wilbraham Massachusetts. Curtis was born in Ellaville Georgia the middle child of Samuel Fudge, and Mary Lizzie Fudge (Burton). He was the only son of this union, and last surviving sibling. His older sister Ellen and younger sister Inell predeceasing him. Curtis attended elementary school in Ellaville, and later graduated from Beach High School and Savannah State college, both in Savannah Georgia. During his senior year he was drafted into the United States Army and served four years 1/9/1942-1/14/1945 with service time in the Aleutian Islands, the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest and various military bases in the southern US. Upon discharge he completed his degree requirements. While at Savanah State he met Vivian Selene Poole who later became his wife on February 21, 1946 in a union that lasted for 62 years. From this union they had three children Ronald, Raymond, and Robert. Curtis and Vivian lived for a time in Washington DC, and moved to Springfield in 1946. Curtis worked at the Springfield Armory for most of his career, which later saw him transferred to the Hartford DOD facility where he completed his career. Upon his retirement he worked at the Harrell funeral home for many years. He was an active member of the Springfield Hill-McKnight neighborhood serving on the Model Cities board for 30 years, and the board of the Springfield Family center. In addition, he served on the parent's board of the Targets Drum and Bugle Corp. Curtis was active in the Alden Baptist church where he served as the Superintendent of the Sunday School for 28 years, Deacon Board for 15 years and was elevated to Deacon Emeritus status in 2010. He was also an active participant in the Men's Chorus for more than 30 years. In addition to his church duties, he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #5, Past Patron Sumner Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Potentate Suez Temple #149 33-degree Mason, Holy Royal Arch Thomas Chapter#2, Alberta Shaw Heroines as Illustrious Potentate of Suez Temple #114. What he was most proud of was the formation and direction of the Drum and Bugle corps of Suez #149. Curtis will be missed by his community and the city of Springfield. He is survived by his son's Dr. Ronald Fudge-Mount Vernon, NY, Raymond Fudge-Washing ton DC, Robert Fudge-Phoenix Arizona, and Grandchildren Ajahne Santa Anna-Brooklyn, NY, Aundrea Fudge-Busan Korea, and Alexis Fudge-Lesley University Cambridge Ma. He will be missed by all. A wake for Curtis Fudge will be held on Thursday May 12 from 4:00PM until 7:00 PM at the Alden Baptist Church State St Springfield. The funeral services will be conducted on May 13th from 9:30 -12:00 at the Alden Baptist Church, Internment will immediately follow at the Veteran's Cemetery, Agawam MA.
