Obituary

Dana LaVerne (Matteson) Shouse, 90, of Agawam, passed peacefully in her sleep on September 5, 2023, after having a wonderful 90th birthday with her family two days prior. Dana was born on September 3, 1933, in Winnetka, IL beloved daughter of the late Clarence D. And Wyoma (Caldwell) Matteson. Although born in Illinois, Dana grew up in Fort Collins, CO and graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1951. Dana met her future husband and love of her life, the late Dr. Clyde L. Shouse while in Fort Collins marrying him on June 6, 1955, and was with him until his death in 1989. Dana was then lucky enough to marry a second time to the late Mario A. Posocco and was with him for fourteen years until his death. She was a longtime member of the Springfield Country Club and loved to play golf with all her girls. She was also a member of Ramapogue Women's Club, Sesame Seeds, and the PTA. Dana loved to smile and have a good time. She would absolutely light up a room when she walked in, and she was the type of person that would talk to anyone. She lived life to the fullest by traveling, playing golf, bowling, and going to Mohegan Sun to play the slots from time to time. She had a passion for music. She loved to play the piano and sing. She had a beautiful voice and sang all the way to the end. She loved spending time with her family whether it was visiting with Kristy with a coffee/tea, wine on the porch with Kurt, bowling or drawing with Lisa, or long phone conversations with Eric. She always made sure each moment was special. Dana was a one of a kind and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her four children son Eric Shouse of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Kristy (Shouse) Ruhl and her husband Joe of Agawam, MA; daughter Lisa (Shouse) Germano of West Springfield, MA; and son Kurt Shouse of Feeding Hills, MA. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her best friend since she was a little girl, Donna Forney of Fort Collins, CO. She was predeceased by first husband, Dr. Clyde Shouse; second husband Mario Posocco; brother Jack Matteson; and sister Donna Camille Matteson. She was asked once what she would want written in her obituary for people to remember her by and asked it to be written down immediately. "Memories are what we have and those cannot be taken away from us. It's been a good life! Love you all and I want to be remembered as I was when alive. Better to celebrate my life rather than my death." She hopes that family and friends will hold these words close to them and live life to the fullest. It was Dana's wish to not have any formal services. She would rather you raise a glass of wine or a drink of choice and just laugh. She always loved to smile and have a good time. You may also celebrate her life by donating to the Alzheimer's Association in her name. The family would also like to thank the staff and residents of the Atrium in Agawam, MA. You made her final days bright, and we are forever grateful.
