West Springfield-Daniel Joseph McDonnell, 71, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Daniel was born on January 27, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Eugene and Mary McDonnell. Daniel was a 1962 graduate of West Springfield High School where he was an athletic standout in both Varsity football and hockey. Daniel was a bartender at his family's West Side business, The Melody Bar. Daniel had an unmistakable charm, contagious smile and a caring heart. Daniel most enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters and even once laid down on the driveway to be their human line in a game of two-square. Daniel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Daniel is survived by his mother, Mary Shea of Agawam; sisters Noreen Landes and Jeanette Bishop of Agawam; brother James McDonnell of Springfield; son Patrick McDonnell and his wife Lynne of West Springfield, along with his two beloved granddaughters Bailey and Erin McDonnell. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Curran-Jones Funeral Home in West Springfield on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 4-7PM.
