Obituary

Daryl E. Wojcik, 72, of Hardeeville, SC, and formerly from Feeding Hills, MA passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2025. Born in Pittsfield, MA to Dorothy and Edward Scharmann and raised in Dalton, MA, her family moved to Springfield, MA where she graduated from Our Lady of the Lourdes. After a brief time at the Springfield City Hall in the clerk's department and another brief time as a school bus driver for special needs children, she began what would turn out to be an illustrious career of over 40 years as a deli manager for Big Y Supermarkets. She was well respected and known for her strong work ethic and team play. She sliced many pounds of bologna and put up with a lot of "bull-oney" as well (her words exactly). She really had no filter and would tell you what was good or bad. Retiring in 2024, she moved to South Carolina's Latitude Margaritaville where it was always 5 o'clock somewhere! Daryl was the quintessential bargain shopper—always on the lookout for a "good and cheap" bargain. Her acquisitions were always amazing to those who knew her. Her backyard oasis in Feeding Hills was her retreat from both work and bargain hunting. The pool was always crystal clear and ready for anyone to enjoy. She raised plants and flowers in the yard and could always be found giving them a speaking to about how they looked! Raising two daughters mostly by herself, Daryl's focus was always about family and friends. She would always be ready to help in any way no matter what sacrifices she would have to make. Her care and advocacy of her beloved mother in her final years was proof of her love and dedication. Daryl leaves behind, her daughter, Ashley Picard, of whom she could not have been prouder and her three greatly loved grandchildren, Brent, Adriana and Justin. Also left behind to cherish memories and good times are siblings Kenneth Scharmann and wife, Jeanne, Jeff Scharmann and wife, Cathy, Debbie Scharmann and partner, Ron Brueno, sister-in-law Diana Demetrius and several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her unofficially adopted daughter Liz Harris and family and her Best Friend Forever of over 40 years, Mary Lamson. She is missed immensely by her wife Donna Demetrius who wishes she had more than the 28 years of bliss they had together. Daryl was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Charles and David Scharmann and eldest daughter, Christina Gonzalez whom she painfully missed. Calling hours are Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10-11am at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Funeral Home Service at 11.
