West Springfield - Delores A. Kestyn, 84, died Wednesday in the Soldier's Home in Holyoke. Delores was born in Turner Falls, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Helen (Walendzik) Kestyn, she grew up in Greenfield and has lived in West Springfield for many years. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School, received her bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College, her nursing degree from Burbank Hospital School of Nursing and Master's Degree in Business from Western New England University. She belonged to the National Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Thao Tau. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Delores served with the United States Navy Nurse Corp. She started her nursing career as a staff nurse with the Franklin Medical Center and later became the Director of In-service at Franklin and Union Hospital in Fall River. She had been a Director of Nursing at Farren Memorial Hospital, Wesson Memorial, Northampton Nursing Home, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Ludlow Hospital and Reed's Landing in Springfield and was the Director of Surgical nursing at Baystate Medical Center. She was a staff nurse and instructor at Capuano's Home Health Care and the Home Health Agency in South Deerfield. She also was the director of the Health Program at the Salvation Army. An avid Red Sox and Patriots Fan, she was a former nun with the Sister's of Providence and a former Real Estate Agent. She is the sister of Charles E. Kestyn and his wife Carol of Greenfield; Donald Kestyn and his wife Janice of Alexandria, VA and M. Barbara Kestyn of Ayer, MA. She also leaves her dear friend Sheila McCarthy of West Springfield. The family would like to thank Hospice of Western Mass and Lisa and her staff on 3 North at the Soldier's Home for their care and comfort given. Family and friends are asked to meet at Blessed Sacrament Church, Greenfield Saturday at 10:00am for the Liturgy of Christian Burial followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield. The visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday from 4-7pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Shelter.
