Diane J.
Baldyga
January 22, 1938 – April 8, 2021
Diane J. (Sasen) Baldyga passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021. She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late Joseph and Mona Sasen. A graduate of Cathedral High School, she also had a degree in Interior Decorating and was a graduate of the Frasier School of Modeling. Diane worked as a secretary at the Samuel Black Company and in the Youth Department of the Springfield YMCA where she also taught dance. As a young dancer specializing in Spanish dance, her NY performances included the Waldorf-Astoria with bandleader Xavier Kugat. A member of St. Anthony's Church in Springfield, Diane did volunteer work throughout the community for over 40 years. She taught CCD at both St. Thomas School and St. Anthony's Church. She was active in the W.S. Park and Recreation program as a soccer coach, and coached Jr. High soccer and basketball at St. Thomas School and also assisted Fr. Michael Twohig in caring for the grounds at Immaculate Conception Church. She volunteered for many years at the Passionist Monastery in W. Springfield. She spent many years doing research that culminated in the completion of two separate family trees, one on her own maiden surname, Sasen, and one on the Baldyga surname. Diane also had a floral/craft business, "One-of-a-Kind," and her creations were also displayed on the W.S. Town Common. Each year at Halloween she distributed hand-painted pumpkins to friends, neighbors, and shut-ins throughout the town. She worked as a rental agent in W. Springfield for over 20 years. Although she enjoyed the various projects she took part in, she always maintained that her greatest joy in life came from her family. Nothing could ever match that joy, she said. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Daniel Baldyga, as well as her two brothers, John Sasen and Buddy Sasen. She leaves her two sons, Mark Baldyga and his wife Christina, of Guam, and Scott Baldyga of Los Angeles, CA, and her two daughters, Sharon MacMillan and her husband John, of Suffield, CT, and Lisa Baldyga of West Springfield, MA. Grandchildren Leila Belmahi, Thomas MacMillan, Michael Baldyga, Alexander Baldyga, Ryan Harty, Daniel Harty, and Sophia Baldyga. Brother Charles Sasen, of Longmeadow, MA. Nieces and nephews Leigh Sasen Hoadley, Donald Sasen, Joseph Sasen, Lynda Sasen, Dean Sasen, Deborah Sasen Eckinroth, Denise Sasen, John Sasen, Cindy Sasen Ramsey. Sister-in-law Barbara Sasen and her daughters Michele Flamand and Kim Dudek. Sister-in-law Sarah Sasen and her children Katie MacMillan Rothschild, John MacMillan Jr, Marion MacMillan Cangemi, and Percy MacMillan. Sister-in-law Nancy Baldyga and her sons Gary Baldyga and Teddy Baldyga. Due to the pandemic, the family will not be holding a wake. Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM, May 29, 2021, at St. Anthony's church in Springfield, with burial immediately following at St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. The family requests that only those fully vaccinated attend the services. In April, 2022, a one-year Anniversary Mass will be held at Saint Anthony's, followed by an outdoor celebration, exact date and venue TBD. Memorial contributions may be made in Diane's memory to the St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
