West Springfield – Donald J. Lane, 94, died peacefully Saturday surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Leroy and Elizabeth (Quinney) Lane. As a young child, he was a gifted athlete in Basketball, Football, Golf and spent a lot of time playing basketball with his brothers at the YMCA. He has lived in West Springfield most of his life. A proud Tech High School graduate, he attended Western New England College and worked as a salesman for 40+ years with Sears & Roebuck. After retirement, he loved to read and took up painting as well as travel to Cape Cod, Maine and Canada to visit the Shrines and spent a great deal of time at the JCC, swimming with his wife Barbara and the grandkids. Don proudly. served as an airplane electrician for the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was an avid Boston Sports fan and volunteered for the West Springfield Park & Recreation as a coach and monitor at the High School Gymnasium and Coliseum Ice Rink. He was a devoted husband to his wife Barbara (Wheeler) Lane and loving father to his four sons, Mark, Michael, James and Christopher Lane and his wife Mei-Lin Yeh-Lane. He also leaves ten grandchildren Donald, Brett, Ashley, Peter, David, Nicholas, Emma, Kaylin, Connor and Cameron and 10 great grandchildren. Don was brother to Leroy, Robert, and Kenneth Lane. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday from 9:30 – 11:00am with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 11:30am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran' Memorial Cemetery.
