SOUTH HADLEY - Donald J. McKenna, 75, died Friday in the Soldier's Home. Born in Holyoke, January 19, 1940, son of the late Donald J. and Gertrude (Walsh) McKenna, he was a lifelong resident of South Hadley and a 1958 graduate of South Hadley High School. Donald was captain of the 1958 South Hadley High School Baseball team and was an outstanding catcher, hitting .378 his senior year. He worked for thirty-eight years in the coated paper industry and retired in 2002. Don was a three year army veteran from 1959 - 1962. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Murphy) who passed away on June 26, 2006. Donald's family would like to thank the staff at the Soldier's Home for the kind and compassionate care they gave to him. He leaves a brother, Ken McKenna and his wife, Joan of South Hadley, a sister, Judy Baker and her husband Tom of Pennsylvania, a brother, Russ McKenna and his wife Helen of South Hadley, sister, Maureen McKenna of Holyoke and sister Susan Mead and her husband, Scott of South Hadley, in laws Maureen Gosselin and her husband Raymond of Holyoke, Karen Pariseau of Holyoke, Eileen Murphy of Holyoke, Terry Murphy and Jean Tillman of Holyoke, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at St. Rose Cemetery. All services are private and the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home is in charge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Soldier's Home Trustees Fund, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
