Don Shakour went to be with our Lord on September 8, 2023. He will be sadly missed by his long time love, friend and companion Mary Lee Shanley. Along with family and friends in the Springfield, MA as well as Mystic, CT area. Don Shakour was born on December 21, 1940 to George and Doris Shakour in Springfield, MA and grew up in Longmeadow, MA. Don graduated from Longmeadow High School in 1958 and then went to Norwich University, in North Field, VT from 1958 to 1962. After graduating with a degree in Business he was commissioned in the Army and trained at Fort Knox, he was stationed in Korea as a tank platoon Lieutenant and served our country from 1962 to 1964. Upon return he moved to Suffield, CT and resided there for 43 years. Don's first job after the Army was working with his father, at the family business, Shakour Beautician Supply Company. Later Don enjoyed his work in sales for a French Fragrance House until 2000. After 2000 he continued his sales career in high end collectibles in Southern Eastern, CT. In 2018 moved to Mystic area where he enjoyed his life with Mary Lee Shanley. Don was an avid sports fan! He was member of the Springfield Country Club and "teed off" regularly. He was on the baseball team at Norwich University and also was an avid skier. Don enjoyed traveling with Mary Lee and other friends of which there are many. He was a fun loving person and was a great friend to all. He especially good in keeping in touch with his life long friends. Don was predeceased by parents Doris and George Shakour and a sister Virginia Shakour. Don is survived by Mary Lee (Weyer) Shanley, Jon Shakour, a cousin, Lee and Jeanne Weyer and the Weyer sisters, Amy, Ann, Liz, Suzi, and the James Welch family. Don's family would like to offer a special thanks to the families of Michael and Katie Welch, Robert and Alana Donohoe, Mack and Pat McWalter and Mark and Jane Robinson. Services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 12noon at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield, MA. The burial will be private.
