Doreen (Gray) Fischer

1934 – 2017

West Springfield – Doreen (Gray) Zerra Fischer, 83, died unexpectedly at home Saturday night. Doreen was born May 4, 1934 to the late James and Eva (Horwood) Gray  in London, England. She lived in Nairn, Scotland during World War II, returned to London after the war and emigrated to West Springfield in 1949.  Doreen graduated from West Springfield High School and worked as an adjuster for Hanover Insurance and later for the Insurance Center of New England until her retirement.  Her first husband Joseph Zerra died in 1969.  She leaves her present husband of 37 years, John A. Fischer; three children Steven Zerra and his wife Elizabeth of Feeding Hills and their daughters Jennifer, Patricia, and Laura Zerra, Anthony Zerra and his wife Heran of Cypress, CA and their sons Matthew and Alexander Zerra, and Kristina Farwell and her husband William of Agawam and their son Joseph Farwell.  She also leaves her beloved great-grandson Logan and great-granddaughters Emily and Eva. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 11:00am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral home service on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00am.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
