Dorothy L. Hegeman
1925-2011
Dorothy L. (Jankins) Hegeman, 85, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born in Springfield, her childhood was spent in Enfield, Ma., one of the historical towns that was flooded to create what is now Quabbin Resorvoir. Dorothy was an avid reader, a joy that began as a child and lasted her entire life. Dorothy's other interests were horses, gardening, tennis and classical music. After retiring from JCPenney, she was able to pursue her real passion which was spending time with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind four children: Lawrence J. Hegeman and his wife Linda of York, ME; Peter H. Hegeman and his wife Deborah of Newfield, NJ, Jill L. Hegeman and her husband Andrea of Chicopee and Scott H. Hegeman of Falmouth. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her eight grandchildren: Jonathan and sister Lindsay, Justin and brothers Jesse and Dylan, Christopher and Michael, and her youngest granddaughter Sarah. The newest arrivals to the family were her great grandchildren Gavin and Addison.
The family would like to thank the staff of Keystone Woods and Baystate VNA /Hospice of Springfield for their dedicated care and support. Dorothy's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Jill and husband Andrea for their years of devotion.
A private memorial service will be held by her family as Dorothy wished. The West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
