Obituary

Dorothy C. (Chryssakis) Katsoulis, 92, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024.  Born in Somerville, MA, daughter of the late George and Antonia (Mavreas) Chryssakis, she grew up in Somerville, graduating from Somerville High School and Salem State College. Dorothy met and married her beloved husband, Markos ("Mike") George Katsoulis, in West Springfield. She first worked as a primary school teacher in Chester, MA.  Teaching came naturally to her, as she was persuasive and a smooth communicator. Dorothy later worked as a stockbroker/financial planner in Springfield.  She lived actively and engaged in everything around her, always at the heart of her community.  She gardened, entertained, and organized unforgettable events and fundraisers.  She helped her husband establish and manage one of the first auto repair shops in the area, Spartan Auto Care Center.  With Mike, she was a founding member of the St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church of East Longmeadow. She and Mike organized and took part in many of the church's festivities and functions. She was involved in the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society for decades. Dorothy was a member of the Longmeadow Garden Club and took pride in hosting tours of her gardens. She was a commitee member of the St. George Olympians Drum & Bugle corps, which her children participated in.  Dorothy was an avid bridge player.  With such a full life, after traveling the world, she expressed her favorite place was being right at home.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Markos Katsoulis, and her second husband, Constantinos (Gus) Philips. Dorothy leaves her loving children: Karen Lambrukos and her husband John of Concord, NH, George Katsoulis and his wife Theresa of Longmeadow, Nicholas Katsoulis and his wife Susan also of Longmeadow, and Paula Katsoulis of Breckenridge, CO, her four grandchildren: Mariel McDonough and her husband Edward, Arianna Katsoulis, Olivia Katsoulis, and Elizabeth Katsoulis, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by a brother, John Chryssakis, and three sisters, Mary Trefon, Pauline Matsas, and Kay Nicholson. The family deeply thanks her primary caregivers; Suzanne Gossman, Clarissa Henry-Thomas, and Robin Houle as well as many others who loved and cared for Dorothy over her final years.  Services will be held Tuesday at St. Luke Greek Orthodox church 400 Prospect St.  East Longmeadow at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St., West Springfield.
