William “Bill” Joseph Girotti, 90, passed on to his reward on Wednesday June 17, 2026. He was born June 9, 1936 in Springfield, MA to the late Edward V. Girotti and Mary C. (Gloster) Girotti and was raised in West Springfield, MA. Bill raised his family in West Springfield and lived there most of his life. He is survived by his beloved children and grandchildren: daughter Cynthia M. and her husband Philip Schultz of Orleans, MA and their children, Sarah, Peter (wife Rachel), and Theodore (wife Sara), daughter Mary Margaret and her husband Edward Eldridge of Douglas, MA and their children Ethan, Megan and Zachary, son William J. Girotti Jr. and his wife Kelly of Wakefield, MA and their children Erin and Molly.
Bill is also survived by his much loved siblings; his brother, James Girotti (wife Linda), their children James, Kate and Christina and their spouses and children; and Bill’s sister, Margaret Kochanek and her children Marla and Meredith and their spouses and children.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife Margaret M. (Donohue) Girotti in 2011 and by his second wife Mary Lou Derose-Girotti in 2024.
Bill also leaves Mary Lou’s children and grandchildren: Louis J (wife Karen), Stephen F (wife Kathryn) and Marie C. (husband Craig).
Bill graduated from Cathedral High School, where he met his wife Margaret and went to the Junior prom with her. He then graduated from American International College and University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. After graduation from dental school, he completed his training in Oral Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital, Tufts University, and completed his residency at University of Texas, Houston. Bill spent four years in the reserves in the United States Army Dental Corp as a Captain, then two years active duty at the Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Bill spent his career as an Oral Surgeon at the McNally Brothers Oral Surgery practice, based in West Springfield. He joined Dr. Ed and Dr John McNally there and he was then nicknamed Dr. Bill for the duration of his career there. Bill’s passion was foremost his family as well as his care and treatment of his many patients over the years. Bill was an avid golfer and card player throughout his life and enjoyed spending time with his many friends both in West Springfield and at Bill and Margaret’s summer home in the Lake Sacandaga region of New York.
Calling hours are Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 4-6pm at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield, MA 01089. Funeral Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 8:30am from Curran Jones Funeral Home, follow by a Mass at 9:30 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
