1919-2014

WEST SPRINGFIELD-Edith (Lawton) Pederson, 95, died Tuesday at home. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and spent her early years in England. Edith lived in West Springfield from 1963 through 2009 before moving to The Arbors in Westfield. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church and a graduate of the former Bay Path Institute, Springfield. Edith was employed at the British Embassy, Washington, D.C., during World War II, and later at the British Foreign Office in London. After her marriage to U.S. Foreign Service Officer and Army officer retiree, Lt. Col. Ernest O. Pederson, she accompanied her husband to his posts in Gothenburg, Sweden and Winnipeg, Canada. Upon their return to the U.S. she was employed in Springfield by Conrail for fourteen years, and the Chancery Office of the Diocese of Springfield for eight years. Shortly after her retirement she took part-time employment with Hulmes Transportation Services, Springfield, as a van driver for disabled adults. Her husband died in 1992. She leaves a son Roger O. Pederson of Portsmouth, NH, a daughter Alice Pederson of West Springfield and a step-daughter, Nancy Sinclair of FL. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:30am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home with a spring burial in Paucatuck Cemetery. Calling hour will precede the funeral from 10:30-11:30am.
