Edith Irene "Rene" White, 91, died Tuesday in Providence Hospital. She was born July 26, 1922 at Milnethorpe, Westmoreland, England, daughter of the late James A. and Sarah Addison. Irene attended Church of England School in Liverpool, England and went on to work in the milk business, owned and operated by her father, at an early age. Irene became acquainted with U.S. serviceman Douglas L. White in 1942 during WWII and they married February 24, 1945 at St. Andrew's Church. Their son James Douglas White was born at "Brooklands" Maghull, England on December 30, 1945. Irene and James came to the United States to join Douglas on June 6, 1946. Irene worked for many years as the voice of the Better Living Center at the Big E. Douglas passed away in 2006. She leaves her son James White and his wife Candace of Feeding Hills, a brother Anthony Addison of England, a sister Grace Haines of Waterford, VA, two grandchildren Kaitlin Cookish and her husband Michael and Andrew White, a great granddaughter Kenna and soon to be born great grandson. Calling hours will be at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with a closing prayer service at 6:00 pm. Committal services at the Mass Veteran's Cemetery will be Tuesday at 3:00 pm. For more details please go to curranjones.com.
