SOUTH HADLEY – Edward F. Dzuris, 94, of Canal Street died Thursday in Noble Hospital. Edward was born in his home in South Hadley the son of the late George and Bertha Dzuris. He was a 1940 graduate of South Hadley High School and has lived here all his life. In his early years, he worked in the family business, George Dzuris & Son, manufacturing Rock Maple Wood Candlepin Bowling Pins. He also worked part-time for the Holyoke Water Department as a Gate Attendant and spent over 33 years as a machinist for Worthington Corporation before retiring from Atlas Copco. Edward served as a Petty Officer for the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Asiatic and South Pacific before being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a longtime member of the South Hadley Falls Congregational Church and sang in the choir. He was a life member of the American Legion, DAV, MOC and was past commander of the VFW Post 3104 in South Hadley. His wife of 57 years, Helen (Banach) Dzuris died in 2006 and his son Edward G. Dzuris died earlier this year. He leaves a daughter Linda J. Bennett and her husband Randy; a grandson Jason Carney and his wife Jennifer and their two sons Ryan and Alex Carney. Besides his wife and son, Edward was predeceased by his siblings Albert, William and George Dzuris and Bertha Loson. The funeral will be held at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley on Wednesday at 11:00am. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00am–11:00am. A private burial will take place in Village Cemetery at a later date.
