1934 – 2016

AGAWAM – Edward J. Loomer, 81, of Cooper Street died Monday, September 5, 2016 in Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born in Springfield, MA on September 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Alfred E. and Ida Mae (Miller) Loomer. He lived and was educated in Springfield before relocating to Agawam in 1965. Ed was an extremely hard worker and devoted employee throughout his life. He enjoyed a long career as a Route Salesman for Unifirst Corporation in Springfield and New England Uniform in West Springfield. After retiring from New England Uniform, Ed worked part-time for many years as a driver for the Nutmeg International Truck Company in West Springfield. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a devoted communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, where he helped with weekly collections. Ed was predeceased by the love of his life, Lorraine (Thomas) Loomer, who passed away in 2013 after 54 years of marriage. He leaves his son Michael T. Loomer of Agawam; and a brother, Charles Loomer of East Longmeadow. Ed also leaves many cherished nieces, great nieces and great nephews. Ed was happiest when spending time with his wife and son and he loved the frequent gatherings with his extended family and close friends. Besides his wife, Ed was predeceased by a brother Alfred and sisters Edith Peets, and Mary Hauschild. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 10:00am with Liturgy at St. John the Evangelist Church at Noon, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 11:30am. The family is especially grateful to the staff of Mercy Hospital for all the wonderful care and support both Ed and Lorraine received. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
