Obituary

Edward J. Mello, Sr., 89, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 28, 2016, surrounded by his loving children. Born in North Cambridge, he grew up there and lived in South Hadley over fifty years. Edward worked as an account executive for Wonder Bread/Hostess Cake. He was a World War II navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 325 in Holyoke. He was also a communicant of St. Theresa of Lisieux Church. Ed was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wife, Marjorie M. (Fitzgerald) Mello died in 2004. He leaves two sons, Edward J. Mello, Jr., and his wife Debora of Granby, James F. Mello and his wife Lori of South Hadley, four daughters, Marianne M. Netkovick and her husband Irving, Margaret M. Greaney and her husband Timothy, Susan M. Mello all of South Hadley, Sharon M. Reis and her husband Patrick of McLean, VA, a brother, Raymond R. Mello of Lowell, a sister-in-law, Wilma Mello of North Easton, MA, thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melinda M. Greaney, two brothers, Alfred and Francis Mello and three sisters, Mary Hite, Elvita Mello and Theresa Ring. The funeral will be Thursday at 9am from the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street with a Mass in St. Theresa's Church at 10. The burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm. Donations may be made to the South Hadley Council of Aging, 45 Dayton Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
