Edward F. Moriarty

SOUTH HADLEY – Edward F. Moriarty, 81, of South Hadley, died Wednesday in Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 25, 1933, the son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Duggan) Moriarty. He was predeceased by his sister Bernice Eaton. He graduated from Holyoke High School and Vermont Academy and was active in sports at both schools. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Later he attended Westfield State College, where he received both his bachelor's and Masters degrees and taught mathematics on the secondary level in Springfield and Holyoke for 35 years. An avid golfer, he held memberships at the Orchards and the Ledges for many years. He also loved to spend time at the beach house in Westerly, Rhode Island with his family. He leaves his wife and best friend Beverly A. (Parella) Moriarty; he also leaves his son Michael and his wife Monica and their son Kevin of Elk Grove, CA; son Thomas and wife Martha, their children Samantha and Nathan of Satellite Beach, FL; daughter Ann Miles and husband Dennis of West Springfield and their children Matthew, Brian and Laura. Ed was blessed with a wonderful family, whom he loved and was very proud of. The family would like to thank all his wonderful caregivers at the Holyoke Medical Center. He was a kind and gentle spirt, with a wonderful sense of humor, love and integrity who made an impression on everyone he met. The funeral will be held at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley Saturday May 16, 2015 at 9:00 with Liturgy in St. Patrick's Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Rose Cemetery.
