Ryan Jr.

Attorney Edward J. Ryan, Jr., a life long resident of South Hadley, passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was born on January 13, 1940 to the late Edward J. Ryan, Sr. and Marcella (Daviau) Ryan. He attended the former Rosary High School in Holyoke. He received his Bachelor's degree from St. Anselm College. He received his Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law. He was a practicing attorney in the town of South Hadley for more than 50 years and served as town counsel to the towns of South Hadley and Granby. He also served as legal counsel to Fire District #2 in South Hadley. He is a founding member and president of the Hampshire Bar Advocates. He served as an assistant district attorney for the Northwestern District from 1970-1978. He also served as legal counsel to the Hampden County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of several fraternal organizations and a longtime member of the Orchards golf club in South Hadley. He will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 57 years, Priscilla, and his children; Kelli DiLisio and her husband Robert of South Hadley, Kathryn Fitzgerald and her husband Joseph of South Hadley, Mary Dowd and her husband Matthew of South Hadley, Matthew Ryan and his wife Laura of Vernon, Connecticut as well as Edward J. Ryan III (Teddy) and his wife Garby of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his devoted grandchildren; Ned, Madeline, Luke, Tom, Patrick, Maeve, Lily, John, Matthew and Edward J. Ryan IV. He leaves his beloved sisters, Pat Laporte and her husband Peter of South Hadley and Terry Foley and her husband Gerry of Springfield, his sister-in-law Bobbie Rogers and her husband Tim and his brother-in-law Mark Gingras and his wife Gail. The funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 am in St. Patrick's Church, South Hadley followed by burial in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley will be Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
