Elizabeth A. (Pescetta) Bonfitto Hammett, 83, entered into eternal rest on June 17, 2026. Born in Springfield, daughter of the late Vigilio “Shrimpy” and Alice (Scherpa) Pescetta, she grew up in Agawam and was a 1960 graduate of Agawam High School. She worked as a dental assistant, and later at Food Mart in the floral department while she went to STCC to pursue her nursing degree. She then went on to graduate from Springfield Technical Community College as a registered nurse in 1992 then spent greater than 20 years in the cardiac wing of Baystate Medical Center as a cardiac nurse. Elizabeth had many passions, first and foremost her family which she cherished, the beach, and music, cooking for others and dancing. Elizabeth volunteered along with Carol Spafford at both Grammar and Middle Schools in Agawam. She also did work and was very passionate about the Covenant House in Manhattan where she received a certificate of achievement from them. She was an active volunteer at both the Jewish Community Center and Senior Center in Longmeadow, providing health services to residents, and mentored nursing students at STCC. She moved to Longmeadow in 1996 and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hammett in 2022, a granddaughter, Morgan Mailman in 2019 and her former husband, Joseph N. Bonfitto in 1995. She leaves a son and his wife, Joseph A. and Susan Bonfitto of Palmer, a daughter and her husband, Marla P. and Kurt Mailman of Mystic, CT, a sister and her husband, Judith and Peter Zarrilla of Orleans, three grandchildren, Cameron Mailman, Francesca Bonfitto, Gianna Bonfitto and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at Thursday at 9am from the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 1061 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills at 10. The burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant House, 460 W 41st Street, New York, NY 10036-6801.
