Obituary

Elizabeth Robbins Svec passed from this life in the 92nd year of her age at the Agawam Nursing Home on December 29th.  She leaves her husband and lifelong companion of almost 80 years, Stanley C. (Red) Svec, in their home in West Springfield where they raised three sons Stanley W. Svec, Stephen D. Svec, and Thomas J. Svec.

Elizabeth was born on June 30th, 1934 in Springfield, MA. where she attended Van Sickle Junior High, met and fell in love with her future husband Red.  She attended the high School of Commerce and subsequently worked for the Farmers Exchange (Agway) as an accountant, ultimately becoming a supervisor at a time when that was unheard of for a woman.  She married Stanley on May 22nd, 1954 and moved to West Springfield in July of 1969 with her sons Stan and Steve while Tom was born soon after.

Elizabeth loved children and family and spent weekends and much of her summer at the family cottage on Otis Reservoir.  She explored the region on Sunday rides with her mother and sons.  She was a special Mother-in-law to Cindy, Laurie and Rachel and as she grew older became the super-gram for her grandchildren Katerie E. Svec, Virginia L. Svec, Devin T. Svec and Jillian R. Svec, and hundreds of West Springfield student athletes as she was part of the West Springfield Wrestling Community with her husband and sons.  Her home was always open to her son's friends, no matter how much money was available, pizza or spaghetti were always on the menu and holidays were always special.

Elizabeth is welcomed into heaven by her parents, siblings, relatives and friends and awaits reunion with her beloved husband and sons.  A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held MON Jan. 12, 2026 in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., W.Spfld.
