Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Norma (Zilli) Wescott, 99,  passed away on Angel Monday, April 6, 2026, a day of special significance in her faith, surrounded by her family. Born in Windsor Locks, CT, daughter of the late Alfred and Ernesta (Morini) Zilli, she moved to Agawam in 1937 and was a 1944 graduate of Agawam High School. Norma worked for the former Springfield Republican Newspaper for forty-nine years before retiring in 1992.  She was a member of the Agawam Golden Age Club Chapter 1 and the Rosary Group of St. Thomas Church. Along with several friends, she helped found a weekly rosary-making group whose rosaries were sent to Holy Cross Family Ministries and distributed worldwide. Norma was also a member of the Agawam/West Springfield Nocturnal Adoration Society and regularly attended Eucharistic Adoration at the Dominican Monastery in West Springfield. She was a member of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and its Ladies Guild, and most recently belonged to Sacred Heart Church. In addition, she was a member and devoted supporter of Mended Hearts, a group for open heart surgery patients. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James E. Wescott in 1988, and a sister, Frances Costa in 2010.  She leaves her loving, caring and devoted daughter, Martha A. Ferrell and her partner, Paul Lenares of Westfield, two very special grandchildren, Melissa Ferrell of North Providence, RI, Robert Jr. and his wife Laura Ferrell of East Greenwich, RI, two precious twin great-grandsons, Nathan and Benjamin Ferrell, and many nieces and nephews. Norma had a way of making everyone in her presence feel special and will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, who cherished the love and deep religious commitment she shared with all. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of the assisted living unit at Southwick Village for their care and support, and to the hospice team of Western & Central MA for their dedicated service. The funeral will be Saturday at 10am at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street with a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 11. The burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. Calling hours are Friday from 4:00-6:00.
