Ellen Mari (Bindon) Friedrich, of South Hadley, died on June 19, 2018.  She was the daughter of late Herbert John and Anna Isabel (Mowat) Bindon of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her brother Malcolm Campbell Bindon who was killed on Iwo Jima in 1945. Ellen leaves her husband of 67 years, Richard Friedrich.  She also leaves two daughters: Susan Jubinville and her husband Cary of Granby and their sons William, Jeffrey, and Robert; and Nancy Neff and her husband Brian of Charlestown, RI, and their daughters Gretchen Lambert and her husband Dan, and Madeline.  She also leaves a nephew, Kristian Friedrich and his wife Linda. Ellen was born in Arlington, New Jersey.  She was a graduate of Kearny High School and Hood College, Frederick, MD, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. She was a member of the Junior League of Holyoke and a frequent performer in its early Children's Theater productions. She also was a Girl Scout Leader, tutor for Junior Great Books, and volunteer at the Gaylord Library.  She was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church, South Hadley. Ellen was a teacher in the Chicopee Public Schools for 25 years, mostly in the sixth grade at the Litwin School. In her spare time, she loved to swim, read, garden, attend live theater and concerts, and travel.
