Elsie H. Gevry
1922 – 2018
FEEDING HILLS – Elsie (Helm) Gevry passed peacefully Monday evening surrounded by her loving family. Elsie was born in Manchester, England, and came to the United States in 1927, where she lived in Connecticut for the majority of her life. She moved to Agawam, Massachusetts in 2005 to be closer to her family. Elsie worked as a secretary for the Linatex Corporation for many years, and was also a notary public. Most recently a communicant of St. David's Episcopal Church in Feeding Hills, she was a former member and past treasurer of Grace Episcopal Church in Stafford Springs, CT. Elsie was famous for her lemon cakes, strawberry kitchen, and fondness for piping hot tea. Elsie will be sorely missed and remembered by those who loved her most for her energy, impeccable housekeeping, and her refusal to ever use a microwave. She was admired and respected for her tenacious independence, classic fashion, and soft-spoken charm and wit. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, George in 1962, and also her mother, Mary Helm, and father, Edward Bluck. Elsie leaves her daughter, Suzanne M. Schutt, who she never failed to say "I love you" to, even during her final days. She also leaves her sister, Muriel Colvin of CT, and two siblings in England, Audrey Perks and Kenneth Bluck; three granddaughters, Nicki, Tabitha and Cassandra; two great grandsons, Jayden and Elliot; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Sadly, Elsie was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Wesley Schutt Jr. and sister Midge Kaeser. Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday from 1:30 – 2:30pm followed by Liturgy in St. David's Episcopal Church at 3:00pm.
