Elsie Phillips
1925 – 2015
WEST SPRINGFIELD – Elsie (Dacales) Phillips, 90, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10th, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, PA., she was the daughter of Speros and Chrisanthe Dacales. She lived in Philadelphia until she moved to Western MA in 1947 to marry John Phillips, her beloved husband of 49 years who predeceased her in 1996. Elsie was the accountant for the celebrated Foster House in Westfield owned by the Phillips family, and she co-founded Phipps Liquor Stores with her husband in the early 1970's. She had studied accounting at Temple University in PA. Elsie was devoted to her church, The St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield, and devoted much time and effort to many functions such as the Glendi Celebration as a member of the St. George Philoptohos Greek Ladies Society. Also, she took the greatest pleasure in sharing the Greek traditions with her family especially on holidays. Elsie is survived by her five devoted children and their spouses: Diane Phillips of West Springfield, George Phillips and his wife Roxanne of Westfield, Jordan Phillips and his wife Constance of NC., Spero Phillips and his wife Kathi of Southwick, and Chrisanne Dahdul and her husband Adnan of West Springfield. She will be greatly missed by her loving grandchildren: Jessica Durfey and her husband Dave, Ross Phillips and Jamie, Ellyn Phillips, Grace Phillips, and Meredith Phillips and her fiancé, Jordan Lanham, Mark Phillips and his wife Kristin, John Phillips, Anna Phillips and her fiancé, Spencer Loftus, Somyah Dahdul, Tarek Dahdul and Dina Dahdul. Also Brian Leduc and his wife Stephanie, Breighly and Brianne Leduc. Also, God children Michele B'Shara Bialock and Malia Round. Elsie is survived by her brother, Peter Dacales and his wife Thelma of NJ and her sister-in-law Bessie Pappas of NJ. She was predeceased by her brother, Constantine Dacales and his wife Theodora, brothers-in-law Michael Phillips, Perry Pappas, and her sister-in-law Kanella Peer and her husband Theodore. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Mabel Wilder. She will be especially missed by the staff and her new friends at Armbrook Village. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday at 9:00am with service in the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 10:00am. The burial will be private in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
